Joint pain is a common issue as we age, often caused by arthritis—a condition that leads to inflammation, stiffness, and discomfort in the joints.

Arthritis can develop over time due to wear and tear (osteoarthritis) or as a result of autoimmune responses (rheumatoid arthritis).

What Is Joint Pain?

In addition to arthritis, old injuries can significantly contribute to joint pain. For instance, a twisted knee, ankle, or back injury from years ago might not have caused issues at the time but can resurface later in life. These past injuries often weaken the surrounding muscles, ligaments, or cartilage, leading to instability and increased wear on the joint.

Age-related changes, such as reduced cartilage cushioning and loss of muscle strength, can exacerbate these issues. Combined, these factors make joint pain a frequent and frustrating challenge for older adults, impacting daily activities like walking, climbing stairs, and maintaining an active lifestyle.

What Are The Symptoms of Joint Pain?

Joint pain can present itself in many different ways, depending on the underlying cause. Common symptoms include discomfort or soreness in the affected joint, which may worsen with movement or activity. Swelling and inflammation are often present, leading to stiffness that can restrict the joint’s range of motion.

A cracking, popping, or grinding sensation may occur, especially in cases of arthritis. This is often accompanied by weakness or instability, making it difficult to bear weight or perform routine activities like walking, climbing stairs, or exercising.

Morning stiffness or pain after prolonged inactivity is another hallmark symptom, especially for conditions like osteoarthritis. Over time, chronic joint pain can lead to muscle weakness and difficulty maintaining balance, increasing the risk of falls.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing / Treating Joint Pain?

Typically, to combat the impact joint pain has on your life, your doctor might recommend taking pain pills, using a heating pad, applying ice, or trying topical creams. While these can provide temporary relief, the key to long-term improvement is restoring your strength. This allows you to move more easily – such as walking or getting up and down stairs – without cracking, popping, or constant discomfort in your joints.

The biggest concern, however, is losing your balance due to a lack of strength and stability in your joints. That’s where therapy comes in. We focus on restoring your full, pain-free range of motion, ensuring you can move your joints with little to no pain. We also work on improving flexibility around the joints, so that when you stand, walk, or move, you won’t hear those unsettling noises coming from them.

Our goal is to help you regain confidence and independence in your daily activities. Whether it’s climbing stairs, working in the backyard, playing with your grandkids, or going out with friends, you’ll be able to move freely without worrying about pain, cracking, or popping caused by arthritic joints. Therapy addresses these issues to give you a better quality of life, allowing you to enjoy the things you love without hesitation or discomfort.

Basically, we can help you get back to living life free from the curse of chronic pain.
