Meet The clinic Founder

Kishor thope

Kishor Thope is a highly skilled physical therapist, with over 30 years of experience in the profession.

Originally from India, Kishor’s eyes were opened to physical therapy when he accompanied his grandmother to her therapy sessions after she fell and broke her hip. He saw firsthand how much the therapists helped her regain her independence.

As he continued through high school, Kishor knew he wanted to pursue a career in healthcare, although he wasn’t sure which field specifically. However, witnessing his grandmother’s therapy sessions opened his eyes to this profession. What stood out to him was how positive the staff were – they genuinely enjoyed their work, creating a relaxed and fulfilling atmosphere. As a high school student, this profession appealed to Kishor and he decided to pursue a career as a physical therapist.

After graduating in 1993, Kishor practiced in India for a couple of years. Following his professor’s advice, he decided to pursue advanced certifications in the US. Initially, he worked in Michigan for a while before moving to Champaign, Illinois, where he fell in love with the community and has been living here ever since.

While practicing, Kishor became increasingly frustrated with the corporatization of healthcare. It felt as though the “care” aspect was being overshadowed by profit-driven systems. My motivation has always been to provide the best possible care for my patients. As the nature of healthcare changed, he realized the best way to achieve this was to quit his job and start his own clinic.

In 2011, he founded Savoy Therapy. Initially, Kishor started as a sole practitioner but has since grown into a team of 20 clinicians dedicated to helping his patients. At Savoy Therapy, we focus on assisting older adults to live safely and independently in their own homes, enabling them to move, live, and perform daily activities without pain or the fear of falls.

Every 11 seconds, an older adult falls and is taken to the ER with a life-threatening injury, such as a hip fracture. Most of these falls are preventable, and that’s where we focus our efforts. Even with advancements in medicine and surgical techniques, the quality of life after such falls often declines significantly. Many individuals experience reduced independence, relying on walkers, canes, or caregivers. Simple individuals like driving, attending church, or visiting friends become challenging. Over time, their mobility and daily activities are severely limited, leading to further isolation and dependence.

Kishor’s mission, and the mission of his team, is to prevent these scenarios, helping other adults maintain their independence, mobility, and quality of life.
